AI Governance (In Person + Online): Insurance, Insurers, and Indemnification

Three fireside chats on who pays when AI gets it wrong, and how insurers and contracts are writing the AI rules that legislatures haven't.

Streaming Live on Substack, LinkedIn, and YouTube starting at 3:00pm Pacific

Description

Last month we talked about courts and lawyers. This month we follow the money.

Every AI failure eventually comes down to one question. Who pays? Right now that answer is being written in places most governance teams never read. Policy exclusions. Renewal questionnaires. The indemnity clause on page 14 of a vendor agreement.

Carriers are adding AI exclusions to policies that used to cover the risk by default. Some are launching affirmative AI coverage with their own underwriting requirements attached. State insurance regulators are setting expectations for how insurers use AI themselves. And enterprise buyers want their AI vendors to indemnify them, while most vendors are working hard to cap exactly that.

Underwriters may end up enforcing AI governance faster than any regulator. If your carrier asks how you test, monitor, and document a model before it will renew your policy, that question becomes your compliance standard whether or not a statute exists.

Three fireside chats with people watching this from the inside. Bring questions. We are leaving real time for them.

What we'll get into

What your current E&O, cyber, and D&O policies actually cover when an AI system causes harm, and where new exclusions are showing up

What underwriters are starting to ask about AI before they quote or renew

Indemnification in AI vendor contracts: what buyers demand, what vendors will sign, and who is left holding the risk in between

How state insurance regulators are approaching insurers' own use of AI in pricing, underwriting, and claims

Whether affirmative AI insurance is real protection or a new marketing category

Which governance evidence (test records, monitoring, incident logs) is starting to move premiums and claim outcomes

When the AI your company deployed makes the mistake, who writes the check, and who comes after them for it

Format

Three fireside chats, 25 minutes each, with audience Q&A after every one. No slide decks. Doors and networking before and after.

Who should come

Founders shipping AI into regulated buyers. Engineering and product leaders who own a system that makes decisions about people. In-house counsel, compliance, and risk managers. CFOs and anyone who owns the insurance renewal. Brokers trying to explain AI exposure to clients. Anyone who has been asked to sign an indemnity clause about AI and wasn't sure what they were agreeing to cover.
