Building Out Loud
The Seattle Flow Manifesto for Founders
The Seattle region is full of people building remarkable things. Quietly. It’s full of people who are skilled, ready, and eager to help founders build and grow their startups. People who want to volunteer their time, invest, or build together. Yet, we are not finding each other.
Innovation is the backbone of prosperity, and startups are the primary vehicles to deliver it. Building a startup here is something to be proud of, never something to apologize for. Say it out loud.
We believe our region has an opportunity to enter a collective flow state, driven by ambitious startup founders who want to change the world. This is a movement of founders, investors, builders, and cheerleaders of innovation who see that when we push and pull startups forward, everyone moves faster.
Founders belong before they succeed. A failure is an opportunity to learn and do better next time. A success is an opportunity to spread knowledge and financial support. Every successful business was once a startup, and today’s startups are the seeds that will create opportunities for thousands of people years from now.
Founders, keep building, but raise your head to ask for help and tell your story. Feedback is the oxygen, and it comes not only from customers. Investors fund founders they know. The best people join founders whose values, goals, and identity they believe in. Great work doesn’t speak for itself. Be bold. Be loud.
We’ll count every founder in this region who steps forward, by name, in public, for the first time. We’ll help them tell their story. We’ll amplify founders and amplify those who talk about and support them. And we invite you to be loud with us about our founders.
We need to move beyond a parochial mindset and compete on the global stage. Our region is home to some of the most successful companies in the history of humankind1. Seattle ranks fourth in the world's cities2 and is the most highly educated major city in the US3.
The only thing holding us back is ourselves. No more!
Here’s how to join this movement:
- Tell your story. Share what you’re building and what you’re learning. Tag us and we’ll make it louder.
- Claim or create your profile at seattleflow.org and be counted.
- Be loud about other founders. Share their launches, their wins, and their asks for help.
Build here, build loudly, be supported.
We are the stewards. You are the movement.
