A SeaHealthTech Lunch & Learn with Terry Virdell in partnership with AI House.
Every health tech team needs test data. Real patient data is often off limits. Synthetic data feels like the obvious answer, until it quietly introduces problems of its own.
The data may be fake. The consequences of getting it wrong are not.
Synthetic data is being used across product development, interoperability testing, AI, analytics, and privacy-sensitive workflows. But how do you know when it is realistic enough to trust? What kinds of errors still slip through? And where does AI help versus make things worse?
Terry Virdell, Founder & CEO of Your Data Health, brings deep experience in healthcare data quality, interoperability, FHIR, testing, and privacy. In this interactive Lunch & Learn, he’ll move beyond theory and into the kinds of data-quality problems health tech teams actually encounter.
Attendees will compare real, de-identified, synthetic, and AI-generated test data, work through a hands-on exercise and discuss which problems get caught, and which still slip through. The goal is practical: leave with a better framework for choosing, testing, and trusting the data your product depends on.
This is not a slide-heavy session. Expect discussion, table exercises, a short health-data primer, and open Q&A. No healthcare data background is required, and technical and non-technical attendees are both welcome.
What you’ll leave with:
• A clearer understanding of when to use real, de-identified, synthetic, or AI-generated test data
• Better awareness of common data-quality failures involving dates, names, units, codes, and identifiers
• A practical view of where AI can help — and where deterministic checks and human review still matter
• Questions you can take back to your own team before trusting synthetic data in development or testing.
Who should attend:
Health tech founders, product leaders, engineers, data and AI professionals, clinicians, interoperability professionals, compliance and privacy leaders, and anyone building or working with healthcare data.
Help us shape the session
Because this is an interactive workshop, we’ll ask a few short questions during registration about your role, your familiarity with synthetic data, and what you most want to learn. Your responses will help us tailor the examples, discussion, and table exercise to the people in the room.
A note about patient data
All patient data used during the session will be synthetic. Please do not bring or share real patient information.
