Endurance Energy tests undersea geothermal plant off Oregon, briefly produces net power after drilling 52-foot well into 500°F heat
Endurance Energy tested an undersea geothermal system off Oregon—drilling a 52-foot well into 500°F heat and temporarily generating net power for 8.7 seconds before a cable failure halted the experiment. The Seattle startup, which has raised $63 million, aims to build modular undersea power plants (including a 2 MW generator planned for Tonga) to supply baseload clean energy if technical, environmental, and permitting challenges can be resolved.
