AI2 Spinout BirchAI Raises $3.1M Seed to Automate Healthcare Customer-Support Call Summaries

BirchAI, an AI2 spinout founded in June 2020, raised $3.1 million in seed funding for software that transcribes, summarizes and analyzes healthcare customer-support calls to reduce post-call documentation time and improve employee and patient satisfaction. CEO Kevin Terrell says the Seattle startup targets medical device, pharmaceutical and insurance companies and lets employees edit AI-generated summaries.

Nuance acquires Seattle voice-assistant startup Saykara to bolster AI healthcare products; terms undisclosed

Nuance Communications has acquired Seattle startup Saykara, whose voice assistant Kara automatically documents doctor-patient conversations, to strengthen Nuance’s AI healthcare products; Saykara’s team including CEO Harjinder Sandhu will join Nuance R&D. Terms were not disclosed; Saykara had raised $10 million, employs about 30 people, and Sandhu previously sold a startup to Nuance and worked there.

Founded in 2018 by Surbhi Rathore and Toshish Jawale, the 30-person company says pandemic-driven digital communication growth has increased demand for its services.
